Very old and quaint building in the heart of Old San Juan. The staff is friendly and helpful. A variety of rooms and sleeping areas with the one I stayed in the first night a little claustrophobic for me, but Hector moved.me to a more open room after I asked.
The common areas are very pleasant, open to an interior court yard. Lots of different art that accents the Spanish architecture of the building. I learned that January and February are typically very rainy and the building's roof struggles with being water tight in places .. at least while I was here. But to be fair this building is very old and original and they seemed prepared to deal with it.
The rooms have AC and the common areas are completely open to the street and court yard. It never felt hot, but I am from Florida so I may be more accustomed to the tropical environment.
The biggest downfall which has been mentioned elsewhere is the water pressure, the water pretty much trickles out of the showers and sink. Being the are on the top of the hill, I am not sure how much control they have over that issue.
The best part is the people, the staff and the other hostel visitors. Music goes long into the night and some might that objectionable, but I loved it. The hostel is easy walking distance to all the sights.
I would have given this hostel 5 stars except for the water pressure problem I experienced.while here. If hostel stays are your thing, you will love it!
I've been to a lot of hostels. Europe, North America, South America...but this is the first hostel that from the moment I came in felt like I was invited. That I was #Family. Joseph and T treated those here like they have been here forever and that means a lot especially if you are by yourself traveling. If you are in Old San Juan if you want to try a hostel this place is it. Clean, inviting, and fun...what more could you ask for ?
I stayed in this hostel last summer and it was really good. If you are looking for luxury this might not be for you, but if you're looking for savings this is the right place. I'm from Puerto Rico myself, and to stay in old San Juan for the amount of money they charge its a steal. I try to go back for Christmas, but due to the disaster Puerto Rico went through I have to cancel everything. The staff super friendly no complain. " La Patria Es Valor Y Sacrificio " .
We rented the "room with a view" through airbnb. It was a little rough, but had a great feel and a nice balcony. No soap in the bathrooms, gave very meagre quantities of toilet paper, water pressure was crap, drunk bar attendee outside had to ask around for the pin code when we checked in late on the first night, and shower was only cold. 3 stars for great location, cool feel, and good AC in our room.
Great located in Old San Juan. If you are a party animal, planning to drink, not sleep and not really worried about comfort or hygiene, this is your place. The people are friendly but careless, very old place, untidy, dirty and extremely noisy. Since it sits right above a club opened till 3am called La Factoria (very fun btw) old, stained and dirty mattresses, broken tubs... etc. But as said, very friendly with very late check in and probably you can't find anything else for that price in the city.
