Fela’s Vegetarian Restaurant

I found this place on the Happy Cow App. I came here around 10am looking for something tasty for breakfast. This is not really breakfast food, but it is vegan versions of traditional Puerto Rican food and other vegan dishes so I was excited to eat there. All the dishes are premade and behind a counter. The lady explained everything to me in Spanish and I'm learning Spanish so I found that really helpful for practicing. If you don't speak Spanish (or like me and my Spanish is only Ok) you can just point at what you want and they will box it up for you (even if you are eating here they will box it up). I got a bunch of things that looked really good, but I couldn't tell you the name of them now. I got a cornbread style food that was stuffed with veggies. I really loved the flavor and texture of that. I wish I remembered its actual name but I would definitely get that again. I also got a piece of the lentil lasagna because that also looked incredible to me. It was such a good flavor. It reminded me of the pastas I have made at home and I could definitely add more lentils into my life. It was large and very filling and tasted homemade. I got yellow plantains and those were sweet (not too sweet). I haven't had plantains in a while. I used to make different plantain dishes when I lived in Houston, but now that I live in Pennsylvania I hardly see them at the store. That was a nice treat and I highly recommend getting a serving of those. The last thing I got was a soy patty with grilled onions and peppers. That was good, but not amazing. I will try something else next time. I'm happy for the soy protein, but I would like something with a little more flavor. It wasn't bad, but just wasn't super exciting either. Overall I highly recommend this place for a meal, especially for lunch! There are lots of options and you can choose whatever looks good. The pricing is listed on a piece of paper at the start of the counter, but unless you know what everything is it will be hard to figure out how much it costs. If you speak Spanish it will be significantly easier to figure out, but it isn't a deal break. Be prepared to pay about $25 per person. My mom and I were excited to eat here based on the reviews but we were disappointed. I’ll start off by saying there was a long line of locals here so people do enjoy the food but we found it to be lacking in flavor and noticed a lot of the customers were older so it may be catered to more sensitive digestion. We had the white rice and beans, lasagna, mashed potatoes, salad, and wedges. Everything was luke warm and pretty cold within a few minutes. The lasagna was pretty good but could use more salt. Nothing tasted bad but we’ve visited many veg restaurants on the island that had spectacular food so we were left a little unsatisfied.

It could have been good, however, the food was cold. You may have better luck if you take it home and put it in the microwave. Also, we asked the server if she recommended anything, and she said, “I dunno, I’m not a vegetarian,” LOL.

Excellent vegan food! Highly recommend this place. Friendly staff.

Food was super tasty. It's basically a buffet where you choose what you want and each dish is about $3-4 so you can get a ton of food for a great price. The ladies who work there were super nice. They didn't speak English, so you need to know at least a little spanglish or not have any questions about the food. No a/c. Our favorites were the aguacate, tuno, and rice/beans.
