Very difficult hike but the views at the end are worth it! We arrived early in the morning to try and beat the heat, but the humidity still made the hike much harder. Definitely recommend hiking boots and plenty of water. There was a lot of free parking and cool to watch the surfers catching the morning waves. Saw many hermit crabs and lizards on the trail.
This place is worth the hike. Yes some people will use sandals. Its absolutely not a good idea. Simply from the fact that rocks are very sharp all along the 30+ min. hike. You will go up, and down, and around and climb and be exposed to tripping hazards and... It's totally worth it. But be aware. Bring water, a snack, good shoes and snorkeling gear. The water can be rough and deceiving. The beach and rock formations are stunning. Highly recommended with caution.
Survival Beach in Puerto Rico is a true treasure for nature enthusiasts! The easy, short, scenic hike along the coastline offers jaw-dropping views and a chance to climb rock formations for an up-close experience of the ocean’s raw power—ideal for unwinding and embracing the moment. The trail through the "tropical jungle" to reach this secluded breathtaking beautiful beach can be challenging, especially for those untrained, unaccustomed to the terrain, Despite the effort, the reward of arriving at the stunning, secluded beach is unforgettable. The tide here is rough and sometimes powerful, so resist the urge to jump in; instead, enjoy the natural pool near the shore where warm waves gently crash, perfect for relaxing. The return hike feels quicker, but the entire experience is breathtaking and unforgettable. It's strongly suggest bringing cash for refreshing coconut water post-hike—a delightful treat! Locals people are warm and welcoming, and knowing some Spanish makes conversations even more enjoyable, though English is widely understood, ensuring a pleasant visit. In short, Survival Beach is a must-see for anyone craving adventure and natural beauty. Don’t skip it!
Parked up at surfers beach and then took the trail from the end of the parking lot. If you are not local or used to the heat, be aware that it's about a 30 mins trek in rough terrain. Some steep negotiating. Consider you are walking through trees, so don't leave it too late to return!
Having said that it is well worth the walk. The beach is amazing and almost desolate. Like others have said, don't be tempted to go in the water, rip currents do prevail. Walk the whole length of the beach and you'll find a large shallow rock pool. Use that!
Great spot to visit, if you have a fair element of fitness and a little more than sliders on your feet!
Very trying trail I gad a backpack maybe 20 pounds, wear good shoes or boots, take water, bug SPRAY do NOT leave at night you will be in trouble or take good flashlights, trails can confuse you, its not easy and rocks are sharp, no cell phone signal mostly.. THERE ARE LOTS OF ROOTS AND HOLES trails have some neon paint on trees but fading!!! YOU CAN FALL AND THERE IS NO HELP.. DO NOT LEAVE TRASH it is BEAUTIFUL.. water is deep best place is Martinique beach before survivors beach ENJOY!
