No need to pay a tour guide or company if you can follow basic directions. Search all the comments for detailed steps. Definitely wear proper footwear and bring water and snacks. This trail was easy for some people but those with average fitness skills may struggle. The views and wildlife make this trail definitely worth it. Parking was very limited. Overall the best thing to do is watch YouTube videos of the hike then decide if you can make it, but it’s definitely worth it.
Beautiful and so worth the hike. It is NOT an easy hike. Slippery going up and down stream. USE HIKING SHOES OR WATER SHOES WITH TREAD. You will have to swim to get to the top. There are also smaller pools along the way if you cannot make the entire hike. If you’re looking for where to park to hike, make sure you use the TRAILHEAD Cascada Charco Prieto on gps instead. Not a dog-friendly hike as some of the trail gets very narrow and steep.
What an ADVENTURE!!! My favorite part had to be climbing the rope to get to the waterfall. SCARY but sooooo gratifying once you get to the upper portion of the falls. This was not a difficult hike but incredibly technical. Please wear shoes that will help keep you from slipping. Had a nasty fall on one of the boulders and scraped my leg. Also be aware of snakes that like to sun themselves on the rocks. They seem harmless but just approach boulders with caution. Some parts can be pretty muddy too so be prepared to be stepping through mud. The falls are really gorgeous once you're at the top. Can be tricky getting up there. Take your time and don't rush climbing on those rocks. If you have small kids or adults that are not too able bodied, refrain from climbing up to the upper pool of the waterfall. It may be too risky. There's a nice pool at the bottom you can hang out at before the upper portion that's fine to swim in if you can't make it to the top.
THIS GPS DIRECTION IS NOT THE TRAILHEAD!!! If you’re going to hike and see the waterfall this is the incorrect address! You will want to find the TRAILHEAD using ALL TRAILS! This hike was HARD overall and I’m a seasoned hiker. Wet wet muddy conditions with some rock climbing and crawling over downed trees. You’ll come to a small waterfall and think it’s the end, but it’s just the beginning! We had to swim across this little body of water to get to the foot of the 100ft waterfall, however you don’t have too. You can see it just fine from the small body of water. But you will need to find the sign “leave no trace” that’s the easier starting point to the trailhead.
