Cute coffee shop. We got a coffee and a lemon slice. The Americano was fine, the lemon cake was ok. The lady who took our order was very nice and it’s reasonably priced. My only real complaint is that we were eating “to stay” and the food was served to us in a styrofoam takeaway container. I understand washable plates are difficult but i would have really preferred to see paper plates.
Staff was sweet, coffee was delicious and the atmosphere was lively, salsa music was playing and I enjoyed it.
Definitely a good place to grab a coffee and chat briefly with friends or to take a break from walking around
My wife and I stopped by here last year on our honeymoon and absolutely loved this café. While there’s plenty of great coffee options here in Old San Juan, El Cafetal de Borikén is definitely worth a visit!
We are now back in PR a year and a half later and we have been so eager to stop in again, specifically to get the Nutella frappes. They were just as delicious as we remembered from the first time.
This is a great spot to check out if you’re looking for some good coffee during your San Juan visit.
A little surprise on Calle De La Fortaleza. On the lookout this morning for a good cup of coffee and pastries. El Cafetal de Boriken the did not let us down. The cappuccinos were perfect. We tried their Bundt cake. What a pleasant surprise. We had the Guayaba and the pistachio Bundt cake. Both equally as delicious.
Stopped in for an evening coffee while visiting old San Juan. The cappuccino was delicious, well balanced, not too bitter, not too weak. We had plans to continue exploring the city with our drinks. If we had wanted to sit down and enjoy coffee, we’d have trouble finding space. The place is small and there aren’t many seating areas. However, the service was excellent and coffee was worth a stop.
