Highlight of our trip!
Staff was friendly, bilingual and knowledgeable. They contacted us ahead of the tour to provide full transparency about current brightness of the bay and offer a refund or reschedule if we didn't want to take our chances.
The trip out through the mangroves was easy and scenic with a world class sunset when we got to the lagoon.
The luminescence wasn't very bright but with the help of the tarp which, yes was a bit awkward but we were glad we had as an option, we were able to see the bioluminescence.
The trip back is a real adventure. It's dark, you fight the current a bit. Have fun with it, be ready to paddle and follow the line of lights in front of you. If you haven't kayaked you should be fine but I do recommend watching a video or reading an article about how to do it for a little added comfort.
My friend and I had a great time with Pedro! We paddled close to him at the front of our line, and enjoyed his knowledge and humor. We loved seeing the mangroves and bioluminescent bay! The other guides were very helpful to us as well especially on the way back in the dark. What a fun experience! I'd definitely recommend and go again! Thanks guys!!
I love it the whole time! One of our guides Pedro was really funny and made the trip all the morning amazing. My party went during sunset hours and it was so beautiful. Truly would recommend to anyone.
Overall, I felt mislead and taken advantage of. My son and I took an Uber, round trip, from San Juan to enjoy a fun excursion. The tour guides were friendly, knowledgeable and curious. My issue stems from them not being transparent about the conditions of the bay that night. They had been on excursions all night, so by the time we arrived for our 830pm tour, they were well aware about the conditions of the bay. Before we started, the guide said that do to the cloudy skies and recent pollution, there was a chance that the bio bay activity could be lower. With that information, we set off for our tour through the canal, out to the bay. Once we arrived to the bay, we listened to the history of the bay and the other areas in Puerto Rico where this amazing phenomenon happens. After that, the guide started to rattle the water, but nothing happened. He then instructed us, the group of 4 kayaks, to cover ourselves under this large tarp. We did that for about 5 minutes. Splashing and trying to stir up the water. Again, no reaction whatsoever to the organisms. It became very hot and uncomfortable under the tarp, so we removed it. Disappointed and dejected, we were given a few minutes to paddle around the by on our own. We then headed back to the base. I feel as though we were lead astray. If the guides knew that the bay wasnt up to par for the tour, being as though they have been giving tours all night, they should of been more up front with us. With the knowledge that they possessed, they should of offered us the chance to reschedule for a better night. In all honesty, I feel as though they weren't being transparent about the conditions of the bay. If they were, I would of rescheduled and I could of saved my Uber rides and excursion money for a later date.
