10 months agoWe booked an English speaking tour on a Saturday for Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Preserve. It was excellent! Lucy Ann was our guide and she was very knowledgeable and passionate about the reserve, its ecosystems, and future. You ride on an open-air minibus on paved roads for most of the tour, but do get off to walk on a boardwalk, a beach, and into Las Croabas lighthouse as part of the tour. That was a bonus! They are still renovating it, but plan to open to the public April 2024. The public can use the trails here without a tour. This is a hidden gem and well worth the $12 entry.

6 years agoIt's truly beautiful but basically if you want to enter the park, you can only do so on a tour which is a total pain and needs booking in advance. Instead, we walked along the coastline and got to experience the stunning beaches without any reservations and for free! Found the most stunning, giant conch shells, fish and white sands, hidden coves and sunbathing spots. Only saw 2 people in 4 hours, and it was entirely rubbish free. Hard to find a decent spot to swim though, ocean ground is rocky and covered in slippery creepy seaweed.

5 years agoA beautiful and wild place to see. Book your tour online ahead of time. If you are an English only speaker, know that there is usually only one tour a day in English, so plan in advance. The tour is about 2.5 hours long, most of which you are riding a tram. Sit near the front so you can hear the tour guide better. You walk through a mangrove area around a lake, then stop at a beautiful rocky beach, and finally stop at the lighthouse. The views from the top are amazing! You can see many of the nearby islands (Icacos, Palomino), and on a clear days see as far as the Virgin Islands! Bring a bottle of water and sun protection. If you have a camera with a good long range lens, I imagine you could get some amazing photos from near the lighthouse.
