Lots to do in area. Help desk ladies are so friendly and speak English. 24hr swimming pool for customers. Bars, clubs and nightlife. About ten minute walk to El Morro. Highlight recommend hotel. Romeo Gay room
It was my first time staying at a hostel, so I wouldn't have any other to compare it to. However, overall, I had a pleasant stay. The staff are friendly, great communication before arrival, and the place is pretty clean. The hostel tries its best, as shown by all the signs they have to inform people about the male custodian they have and the timeframe for maintenance. There are also signs that ask guests to be respectful and as quiet as they can.
I was in room five, and during my stay, it was never a full room. Girls came and went. For the most part, we all understood the assignment and kept our voices low, trying not to make unnecessary noises late at night when we came back from parties and other activities. If you are a light sleeper, a hostel is probably not a good choice in general. I consider myself a light sleeper, but I was so tired out from the things that I do during the day that I just knocked out right away.
The bed is comfortable, and you get a privacy curtain. The room AC can get cold, so you would need some extra layers. You pay $10 for the shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, towel, and blanket. You keep the blanket; however, they did take my towel while cleaning. I asked for a second towel, and they provided it free of charge. The locker is small and won't even fit a suitcase or carry-on. It's spacious enough for my small backpack and other stuff.
The hostel is located in an okay area. You can call it the neighborhood or the hood. Yet, I didn't find it to be unsafe in a way that I had to clutch my purse or anything like that. (If you have ever been to certain parts in Brooklyn NY, or East NY, this is quite safe to me.) I was outside at 3 AM talking to the bartender, Jesse, from the bar across the hostel, and others who work there. They were friendly people and told me more about the area. There's also a little cafe/booth across from it; there was music, and the owner recommended a dancing place in San Juan. There is a club around the block; it can get loud, but it didn't bother me much.
Lastly, I think its location is convenient; it's within walking distance of many attractions, has beautiful beach views nearby, restaurants, and is 20 minutes from Plaza Colón. I would definitely come back for another stay if I come to Old San Juan.
If it were not for the rooster incessantly crowing throughout the night, this would have been a 10/10 experience. Roosters are unfortunately just part of Puerto Rico, so I do not fault the hostel for that. I have stayed in hostels all over the world & I must say - the quality of mattress and pillows were far better than most. The plane was also very clean for having so many women. The staff was very nice & prompt. Definitely wish there were more hostels like this.
Decent hostel in a great location.
Pros-24/7 staff was reassuring. There's a bus stop right around the corner, so it's easy to get where you want to go for the day. There's a store and patio bar right across the street.
Coffee is close as well, and a killer taco bar.
Full-size bed with 2 pillows and sheets. Curtain pulled around the 2 open sides of the bed, and you have a locker. There's a small shelf with a light in your bunk, along with plenty of outlets to charge your things.
Cons - the floor and showers could definitely be cleaner, lol. There was a bandaid in one for 3 days...
Suggestions- put hooks in the toilet stalls, maybe a shelf! It's an all female hostel, maybe a shower bench for shaving (it was quite the challenge) or even a grab bar for balance. Just a thought.
It was a mostly nice hostel. If you’re looking for somewhere to just only sleep, shower and keep ur stuff this is the place. It’s my fault not doing my own research. The service 10/10 everyone is extremely nice here I have zero complaints. But this area is extremely touristy. There’s not much shared common spaces to hang out other than a “waiting roomish area”. There’s zero kitchen again my fault not doing my research. There is two or three tiny fridges for leftover takeout if there’s space. I booked 3 nights I only stayed one night apparently there was an incident while I wasn’t there people looking inside of other peoples areas. Idk I would only would only stay there if u wanna explore old San Juan. I would recommend do your own research. Girls are weird too lol not only men There is a really nice hostel in isla verde ifykyk
