gem in the city.
The atmosphere is peaceful, the walking track is perfect for a morning jog or afternoon stroll, and the park is always clean and well-kept. It’s a great spot for families, with plenty of open space, shaded areas, and an hoursback riding area. I’ve always felt safe here, and it’s clear the community takes pride in maintaining it. Highly recommend for anyone looking to unwind or get some fresh air!
The caves are also an amazing plus! I've been going here for the past 15 years and have always enjoyed my time. There is plenty of accessible parking that is typically free right near the trail heads.
"Not suitable for strollers if you are planning on reaching the peak"
Great hiking site. The maps could be a bit more clear though. The stunning beauty makes up for it. For the tougher trails bring shoes with proper traction and maybe some long pants. Can't speak to the rock climbing and mountain biking.
This place is unique. It’s a campsite, equestrian park, running trail and mountain biking trail. The site also has a bunch of old bunkers. Nos of the bunkers are in disrepair, but some are being repurposed as offices and storage. They charge a small $4 fee to park and there is plenty of parking. The park has bathrooms and showers. We camped out with the scouts and had a great and safe time. When we were here, there was no electricity.
Parking - plenty for $4
Space - tons of area for camping, running, and biking
Fire pits - none
Grills - none
Bathrooms - yes
Showers - yes
Electricity - maybe
This is a great park. You forget you're in the city. The trails are pretty well marked, and they have lots of mountain biking trails. Unfortunately the observation tower (at the binoculars on the map) is closed because many of the boards in the staircase are unsafe and need to be replaced. But you can still see El Morro from the top of the hill! The old military bunkers along the trail are super cool. Great picnic area, bathrooms (no electricity or toilet paper, but running water), water fountain. $4 parking and it felt very safe. We saw so many snails, butterflies, and a snake. We'll definitely be back!

2 months agoGreat hike near Ft Buchanan. Lots of beautiful trees. Watch out for mountain bikers on the trail if you are on foot.
