Bought tickets through Island Ventures. They take care of everything. I did the toured hike to the lighthouse and enjoyed what island ventures offered (snorkeling, kayaking, water, food, etc.). Very well worth it. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Beautiful island.
A beautiful spot but a small red flag must be raised to bring attention to its slow deterioration. As nice as it was to visit signs show that it used to be much better. Just the small beach and its beauty was enough to make it an enjoyable trip. But a tiny museum on the island is falling apart fast. A hike to the lighthouse is good but signs along the way that highlighted points of interest no longer say anything. Whatever was written there is long gone. The lighthouse is in ruins. Much of the island is off limits to visitors. A pier on the island is no longer in use and also falling apart. Other buildings and restrooms on the island are just about rotting away and no longer in use. There's someone there to watch over the island who apparently works for the government, but there's no signs that they do anything else. The catamaran trip to the island and back was great. The men who led the trip there were very helpful and made the trip enjoyable. Again, the trip was great, awesome, if only for the beauty of the beach, the white sand, almost crystal clear water, the catamaran, the seagulls, the few beautiful tropical fish we saw while snorkeling, and very pretty rocks. But you wonder why nothing is done to make it an even greater get-away. More palm trees can be planted (just stick a coconut in the ground!), and a few other things will make this beautiful spot a place you would never want to leave. Bring a frisbee, a way to take pictures under water, an inflatable beach ball, and enjoy a great day. You won't regret it. I give it four stars rather than five because I'd like to see some improvements to the island itself. The trip, the beach, and the service by the men deserve a 5.
This is a very nice place off one of the many small islands close to PR. This one is by Ponce. I highly recommend this place to anyone. If your ok with sweat, then take the hike to El Faro/Light House. About 1/2 hour walk to and 1/2 hour back. Please go early in the day and with proper foot wear, not flip flops/slippers. Take a water bottle and a small wet towel because on hot days, you'll need it. Also wear a hat, it helps out somewhat. Don't forget phone or camera to take pictures.
