A peaceful, historical oasis — truly one of Puerto Rico’s hidden gems! Baños de Coamo is a must-visit for anyone seeking a quiet escape into nature and history. Nestled in the serene hills of Coamo, this hot spring is not just about relaxation — it’s about connecting with a deep cultural legacy. The site is believed to be used by the Taíno people centuries ago, and there's even a legend that Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León thought it might be the Fountain of Youth. Standing in the warm, mineral-rich waters, it's easy to understand why. There are two pools: one gently warm and perfect for long, meditative soaks, and another that's hotter, better for shorter bursts of heat therapy. The surrounding area is lush and peaceful, with plenty of trees and mountain views — ideal for clearing the mind. The facilities are clean, simple, and affordable (entry is under $5), with showers, changing rooms, and even a small café and gift shop nearby. It never feels crowded, which adds to the tranquility. Locals and visitors alike come here not just for the healing waters, but for the calm and quiet that’s increasingly rare in our busy world. Highly recommended for a half-day trip — bring a towel, a good book, and let the waters do their magic.

I find it astonishing that this establishment has garnered 5-star reviews. Our experience here was nothing short of appalling. What I anticipated to be a serene and peaceful visit turned out to be entirely the opposite. The water was not only unclean, but describing it as such feels like an understatement. My mother and I were eager to bring my husband, who endures severe daily pain, and we felt profoundly disappointed. To exacerbate the situation, we witnessed a woman bathing in the water with a bar of soap, and there were no staff present to address this unacceptable behavior. In addition to the murky water, we also detected a foul odor reminiscent of sewage near the springs. I must express that I have no intention of returning, and I would certainly not recommend this place to others.

This is my second time coming here and I had a way better experience the first time during Covid precautions than what I just experience today. I am not sure if it’s because we came for the later crowd. We also stood until almost sundown the first time. Different than before , I was quite disappointed at the social atmosphere and a little bit by the facility maintenance after coming here first in 2022/23. So just get the nuts and bolts out of the way. The greeter at the front was respectful and the service clerks were great but during a shift change or whatever I saw that I am myself on my way out of the ladies dressing room had to shoo out a lost man entering the female side. And some of the sinks in the women’s room were non functional for hot water. An overlook once used for more table space was also roped off I don’t know why? Minor yes, but coupled with the multiple polite reminders to keep voices low and only having that respected on the cool. Pool where things echo , my mental fortitude and ability relax and reconnect with my body was really tried when I enter the hot pool and found multiple people overstaying they’re positions , leering, hovering too close , and talking about politics, food and other non relaxant things. It seems people really do struggle with respecting silence and some of the discipline it takes to just shut up for 30 minutes, I hope it you visit you get lucky on your day but with ticketing, not capped or counted internally well, nor is there an employee in the pool spaces curating the experience it can be underwhelming. My father remembers how it used to be much rockier and harder to get to and I love the accessibility. It brings for those who need healing, but more municipal funds and redesign could benefit from protecting the space from just becoming a social watering hole people visit before +/ visiting other watering holes.

During our visit to Aguas Termales de Coamo, my wife and mother-in-law were eager to experience the therapeutic benefits of the hot springs, particularly considering my chronic pain as a disabled Army veteran. Unfortunately, upon our arrival, we were disheartened to find both pools in a state that fell short of our expectations. The water was notably cloudy and unclean, which detracted from the overall ambiance we had anticipated. To compound our disappointment, we observed an elderly lady bathing with a bar of soap in the hot tub, raising concerns about hygiene standards. This experience, rather than being a source of relaxation and relief, left us feeling let down, as we had looked forward to a restorative day at the springs.
